Event proceeds help The LENS Foundation support the K-9 Unit of the Charleston Police Department and its positive impact on our community.

K-9 officers help prevent loss of life and enable peaceful law enforcement outcomes. With their human partners, they perform the dangerous work of vehicle, residential, and area sweeps for narcotics. They also help track and locate crime suspects and work with law enforcement partners, including the Aviation Authority, FBI, The U.S. Coast Guard, neighboring police departments, and many more.

The cost of procurement, training, care, and special equipment for each K-9 Officer is an estimated $25,000 over their career. Typically, the handling Officers adopt their retiring partners and assume the burden of care and food costs.
